On September 10th, 2011, The US Military Combined Services polo team and the British Forces Foundation Combined Services polo team will descend upon the Great Meadow Equestrian Center in The Plains, Virginia for a rouzing and spirited international polo tradition - the Commonwealth Cup of Polo.

Now in it's 26th year, The Commonwealth Cup is the oldest and, aficionados concede, the most highly attended international polo match in the country, typically attracting more spectators than the U.S. Polo Open. In this annual challenge, the US Military Combined Services Polo Team square off against an elite team of Brits from the British Combined Services for a key benefit match.

The Commonwealth Cup, paired with The Wine Festival at The Plains, Virginia, was been named one of the "Top 20 Events in the Southeast" for September 2010 by the Southeast Tourism Society in Atlanta, GA.

This double hitter event is held at the prestigious Great Meadow Equestrian Center, just west of Washington DC. The Great Meadow venue, one of the premier equestrian facilities in the nation, is the ideal place to accommodate the National Capital region's growing number of polo enthusiasts for this prestigious event.

The Commonwealth Cup is known for it's classy add-ons and this year we're proud to bring back the ultimate merger - The Wine Festival at The Plains and Commonwealth Cup XXVI - pairing up once again for a spectacular weekend at Great Meadow!

In addition to great polo both days, guests will enjoy tastings of over 275 of Virginia's locally-grown award-winning wines, fancy food, fine art and gourmet cuisine prepared by the region's best chefs. Activities also include wine and cooking demonstrations on the Viking stage, fancy hat and tailgate contests, and a carriage-drawn champagne divot stomp at half-time.

The Commonwealth Cup is a key fund-raising event. Proceeds from the event provide funding for the Great Meadow Foundation and projects that support British and American servicemen and women all over the world through the Wounded Warrior Project and the USO, non-profit 501c3 organizations dedicated to implementing initiatives that honor and empower our national heros.

Come and enjoy this fabulous weekend at Great Meadow!
